Hassan Hawash: July 20, 2020South Osborne Bike HubA Customer Review by Hassan Hawash“Dad, I can’t take my bike out for a bike ride. I’ve got a flat” my son informed me. What am I going to do now? Oh, wait a minute! What was that place again? The one that got the write up in the Sou-Wester. The article said something along the lines of learn how to do it yourself. Yeah, let us go there I thought. It could make for a nice father son activity. So now where is this place? Down at the bottom of Kylemore Street behind Lord Roberts Community Centre. They are open from 9:30 am on throughout the day to 9 pm Monday to Friday. We had plenty of time when we left our house at 6:30. There just beyond LRCC we noticed South Osborne Bike Hub. There was a signboard showing the bike repair shop logo in black and white on the fence. On our first look around the corner we noticed two bikes being worked on. There was a couple originally from India both of whom were working diligently to get their bikes road ready. With their mission done the couple settled their transaction with Brett. A donation, decided on by the customer, he said. Upon leaving the guy said he had not had much experience with bikes, but did manage to take care of his repair work as did his wife. She, he claimed, was very good at taking care of her bike. Also, with her back to us was a young woman engrossed in her task in getting the pedals adjusted. Turns out she, Carrie, and another young man, Tommy, help out in the evenings volunteering so Brett is not on his own.‘Hello, are you the guy I chatted with on Facebook messenger a little earlier this evening?’ I asked with my son by my side. Brett looked a little quizzical. Noticing this puzzled look I continued ‘In any case, I understand this is a bike repair that has the customer do the actual repair with some guidance from the personnel here.’ To get a read of the 23 year old U of M student, I wondered aloud how do punctures happen. With a measured pause, the young seasoned cyclist gained from 10 plus years, with some savoir faire from his family’s auto business back in Melita, began, ‘Well, it could be a puncture from a sharp object. It could be a case of not having enough air in the tire causing the tube to squeeze against the wheel resulting in a sharp pinch so you have air seeping out.’With that said, Brett had us mount the bike, which he assisted with, on a clamp to get the wheel off which my son promptly took care of. Brett then showed us what the next part of our task would include which prompted him to bring out two blue plastic levers. The idea was that we would both work the hook of the tool inside the rubber tire and the wheel a good six inches apart from one another. Eventually, with heavy emphasizes on eventually, we got one side of the tire off. Then, it was on to the other side and the same process. No point getting frustrated take it slow and steady. “Let me do it Dad’, enthusiastically appealed my son. Once he got the tube out he was eager to find where the puncture was. “Found it’, he claimed triumphantly. So, Brett brought out a new inner tube and my son pumped air in just enough so it held its shape. ‘Oh no Brett, something doesn’t seem right’. In no time, Brett had the tube fitted to size. On we were to the next part of the task at hand.‘Let’s fill the other wheel before leaving’, I reasoned not wanting to risk what Brett mentioned earlier. ‘Oh no’, my son discovered air seeping out. Brett ever so encouraging reassured us ‘You guys are experienced now. It shouldn’t take too long.’With all that said, it was a lovely evening. A mission accomplished under Brett’s watchful eye. Time well spent between a father and son. The sun had not yet set. We still had time for a short bike ride.

Pat Neufeld: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,Value

Raees Ali: Amazing Crew. Resourceful and awesome volunteers. Thanks fot all your help.

Sam Vekemans: Open from late may to October of each year.

Natural Cycleworks: what do users think?

Steven Kotelniski: I had Natural Cycleworks build me a bicycle this year with a frame and some parts from Montreal. Their service was excellent and fast and the bike is perfect. Very happy with the results!

Ben Chapel: The shop is busy during riding season - a great sign. I booked a job to have a new two-speed Sturmey-Archer "automatic shift" hub laced up to my existing rim for single-speed bike. They were able to do the job a day early, custom cut 32 black spokes as per request and laced, trued and installed the wheel back onto my bike. Since the new IGH needed re-gearing, they installed a 22 tooth cog in place of the original 18 tooth - the new cog required a new longer chain, they did that too. Thanks Guys, great work. Highly recommended

Joshua Dyck: I have now built 2 custom bikes with Natural Cycleworks. The first was a fully built bike where they supplied all the parts, the second build I brought in the frame and they helped me with the rest of the parts. The time and care they took to respect my budget and help me get the bike I wanted was outstanding. If you are ever needing help with fixing a bike or customizing your bike for your needs I would definitely drop into their shop.A small but fantastic selection of parts are available here!

Cory @ Floodway Print Co.: Natural is a community bike shop that should be cherished forever.

Marielle Sasaki: I came in thinking all my questions might be stupid but they were answered before I could even be insecure about them! Hallelujah! Best bike shop in Winnipeg!

Afreed Walee: Broke the chain on my bike. Walked there in 2 hours. Was about 20 minutes before closing.Oliver took care of my bike.Advised I didn't wanted to walk all the way back. Was done in less than 15 minutes. And charged me only few dollars for a part that was missing.Highly recommend and will go there again.

Saud Alruwaili: Fast service and the price is right..

Bray Kik: Awesome place with awesome staff would recommend!

Spicy Radish: I popped in for the first time looking for some parts for an old bike rebuild from my childhood. I’m impressed with the friendly knowledgeable service and am left feeling like the top goal here is to help people get the most out of their cycling goals. I will make this my go to stop for parts, service and advice.

Don Hollio: Walked in with a custom 140 spoke wheel that needed a professional to true it up. Two other bike shops weren't very interested. A friend recommended Natural Cycle so I showed Matty and he said they'll do it. Service was excellent. Price was excellent, and I couldn't be happier with the result!Their general willingness was awesome! Definitely will be using them in the future.

Justin Hadiwijaya Horman: The staff is the best. They really are bicycle enthusiasts, and will give you the best advice that you can get for your bike. I came here to get tune-up, spare parts and installation. This will be my bike shop from now on in town. The shop itself is quite spacious underground, and lots of parts for you to choose. Otherwise, you can imagine of almost any parts or brands you wish despite they don't have it in stock, as they will figure it out for you.

Mark Pulak: I had some issues that the employee here was very helpful with. An honest business that operates with integrity. Definitely will be returning and recommending to anyone for their cycling needs.

Amy Anderson: I'm just a girl who loves biking to work, in civvies, on my not-particularly-expensive bike. Whenever I schlep my bike down the stairs to Natural Cycle for a repair, I'm impressed by the friendly & knowledgeable staff who never ever make me feel like I don't belong there. If something isn't quite right the first time they make sure it is resolved, and they check before they do even minor things that would add to the cost. Best bike shop I've gone to, and now the only one I will!

Murad Zaman: I had a phenomenal experience here. I had a tricky custom build and they handled everything with amazing expertise and I'm so happy with the result, I love my bike! Kudos to Andrew for all the help.

Local Guide: Fast, friendly, and reliable service! Had an amazing experience. Fair prices too. Will always come here for my bike repair needs. Thanks guys!

lukesta luka: Best bike shop in Winnipeg. Very impressed

Jomar Clavecillas: Excellent service. Went there for an odd request for my trifold bike and it was resolved in a quick and efficient manner. Will definitely be back here for all my bike related needs.

Emilie Lemay: I bought a bicycle at Alter Ego a few years ago and I’ve enjoyed great service and yearly tune ups.

michael walker: 5 Stars.Outstanding service.

rick wolfe: Awesome store ....lots to drool over bike wise , lolGreat knowledgeable staff !!

Philippe Bardet: I love the annual maintenance that is included with bike purchases. Note that it’s now a 50% discount since 2021. I especially like the fact that recommendations on part changes are not driven by spending and that if a part change is not necessary after initial estimation, technicians won't proceed with the change just for the sake of it.My last service was for 3 bikes and despite asking for level 2 service, they decided it wasn’t necessary in my case due to some parts being replaced, so they just charged level 1 price. It is a nice surprise when you see the final bill. Thanks for being honest.

Scott Sugimoto: Great after sales service ! Always the Best !!!

Devin Cunningham: Nice new big bright store, same great staff! Been going for years, always come through. Thanks

Sharon Simon: Great people, great service. I can always get my questions answered and they know who I am and which bike is mine. I feel like a valued customer!

warren jerris: next level service every time we come in

Shawn Schell: Great communication and shipment follow up from Ethan.

Lindsey Wiebe: Very helpful staff!

Adam Roy: I've been ordering a ton of bike related gear online lately, because my local stores in Atlantic Canada are pretty much limited to only Trek stock, and I'll admit I'm not super into that brand for a bunch of reasons.Anyway, a lot of my orders this summer have been shipping incredibly slow. Like, they've been picked off the shelf slowly before they've been packed for skipping. Sometimes a week before shipping. Not Woodcock. The person shipping my gear was named Olga, I believe, and my stuff actually got to Halifax about 4 or so days sooner than I expected via Canada Post.TLDR: Thanks, team! I'll work with you again and recommend you!

ERIC C: Awesome service department

steve barsby: I buy all my cycling gear from woodcock and have all my servicing done there as well. Woodcock is by far the best bike store in Winnipeg

Anders and Jenny did great work and were pleasures to be around. This place is like the unicorn auto-mechanic: Good service, good prices, and they'll tell you what to watch for on your bike, what needs fixing today, and what needs fixing tomorrow.I will say that when you talk on the phone, you are talking to a friend of yours in the community who wants to fit you in, not the corporate front desk - that is, don't mistake genuineness for obtuseness, and just go see them in person. Thanks guys. See you next time.

Hamid Ashrafzadeh: Great service and very helpful, friendly staff.

Peter Howie: Wonderful staff providing a unique product at remarkably accessible prices. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you!

Rebecca: Love my dutch bike from Plain Bicycle. I also ordered a front child seat and it has been so great to use with our toddler! We get comments on it all the time asking where it is from, as they are rare to find in here. 100% recommend if you're looking for a comfortable ride for urban use.

Drew Perry: Friendly and helpful with a repair at a very reasonable cost.

Justin M.: I needed a quick front hub/bearing replacement as my front wheel was wobbling a lot and called a couple stores and they both told me they couldn’t fit me in for another 4 weeks. Thankfully I found and called Bicyle Garden and they told me they could accommodate me if I showed up that same afternoon. The guy took my bike in as soon as I showed up and I was able to see him work on my bike and be done within less than an hour! They saved my day and their prices were super fair! HIGHLY recommend this place. I’ll be back there whenever I need something related to my bike for sure!

HrmNJP: I visited the shop in last minutes before their closing time and the gentleman fixed my tire right away. I'm so glad I chose Bicycle Garden for the repair. Thank you so much!

Jen Piasecki: Excellent service and great product. My son is very happy with his bike.

Luis Reis: Thank you to Tim and the gang at Plain Bike/Trail Association for your help in replacing my stolen bike. Your support was greatly appreciated!

Eric Marinier: The staff were very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Lifesport Shops Ltd: what do users think?

Gurkirat Singh: Really nice little shop and really nice people. Sad its gonna be closing down in a month.

Mike Pavloook: Update: I'm really going to miss this place. Unfortunately, they are closing down at the end of the year so pop in and grab any last items before its all gone.***The service here is great. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great selection of quality bikes, parts, and accessories.

greg davidson: Long live lifesport...yo haters,if you don't want to hear what you need from these experts,go to Walmart...see if they care. R.I.P Walter

Edwin Voetman: This is truly "The Small Shop With The Big Heart". I have been dealing at this shop for many years. First with Walter and now with his son Sebastian. Over the years I have purchased a few bicycles and ski equipment and have never been disappointed with the product purchased and the service given. I have always been treated with honesty and knowledge and would advise anybody looking for a good bike, cross country ski and all accessories to visit Lifesport at 411 Pembina Highway where I am sure you will receive the same welcome and service I did.

Lila Asher: Came in for a minor repair and it was fixed next day. Good value for the money and great customer service

Jim Pattison: The men know their stuff

Brianna Kaldor-Mair: Excellent customer service, and I love my new bike!

J: The person there was very friendly and helpful.

CliffordW: Great service. Knowledgable staff.

Jay Bains: Nobody else would even try to help me repair the blown tube on my young sons 16 in bike. I called at least half a dozen bike shops and they all said to leave the bike for a week. Most seemed uninterested. This was during covid, so places were quite busy. I called Lifesport, and even though they were busy too, they were willing to do it. I showed up and within 45mins they completed the repair! My son and i were super happy and appreciative. They showed old school concern and attention to customer service. Most def go here for all your bike needs. You will not be disappointed!
