There are many signs that your child may need help. Identifying these warning signs of potential speech/language problems are invaluable to helping your child receive necessary speech/language therapy. Early identification and treatment of speech/language delays or disorders can improve your child’s overall ability to be successful and confident communicator as well as support the development of reading and writing skills.

The #1 sign that your child needs help is that they are not showing consistent improvement. Children begin to understand language and communicate from birth and rapidly develop their speech/language skills until they learn to construct basic phrases of 2-4 words.

We might ask for reports from doctors, occupational therapists, physio therapists, or teachers. We might ask you to sign a form allowing us to discuss your needs with other health care providers or educators.

A referral from a doctor is NOT required for an appointment with a Speech-Language Pathologist. However, some private insurance plans may require this for reimbursement.
