There are many signs that your child may need help. Identifying these warning signs of potential speech/language problems are invaluable to helping your child receive necessary speech/language therapy. Early identification and treatment of speech/language delays or disorders can improve your child’s overall ability to be successful and confident communicator as well as support the development of reading and writing skills.

The #1 sign that your child needs help is that they are not showing consistent improvement. Children begin to understand language and communicate from birth and rapidly develop their speech/language skills until they learn to construct basic phrases of 2-4 words.

Speech development milestones let you know what language capabilities your child should be developing at certain months. We might ask for reports from doctors, occupational therapists, physio therapists, or teachers. We might ask you to sign a form allowing us to discuss your needs with other health care providers or educators.
