Raymond Rooke: We have had a number of our valuable watches and clocks maintained by Jason at the Little Shoppe of Horology and have always been impressed with his knowledge of all types/ages of watches and clocks, his diligence and care when working on each piece, and his friendly personality and ability to share his knowledge with his customers on their particular item.Recently we had need to repair a mantel clock with a dubious and unknown history.... it appeared it had been altered by a previous owner prior to it coming into our hands. We affectionately referred to this as our "Franken-clock". We brought our clock to Jason and hoped he could work some magic. It goes without saying that a clock with such questionable integrity would present challenges to even the most experienced horologist. Jason was definitely up to the challenge and began working on the clock, attempting a number of approaches to correct our problem. Unfortunately it was not fixed the first time out of the gate, but Jason stuck with it, continuing to investigate and address issues as they arose. In the end, after much hard work and bench-testing, Jason got the clock working to a state that matched his high standards.We will definitely continue to use Jason and the Little Shoppe of Horology for all our future maintenance/repair needs, and highly recommend him to anyone with a treasured timepiece.

Gregory Hill: I have two clocks that Charles and his team have restored to excellent working condition over the past several years.One is an early 20th century twin chime Mappin Webb mantle clock. I purchased it as-is in non-working condition. All three springs were replaced and the mechanism serviced. Now it has been cheerfully ringing out the time for over a year in my home.The other is a tall-case clock that I purchased over 25 years ago. It was not working, but a gentleman who has since passed away was able to service it. It worked well for almost ten years, but then stopped.I took it to several clockmakers but they all said the mechanism was beyond their level of expertise to repair.Finally, I decided to seek the help of The Empire Group. It turns out that the works are indeed unusual, because they have only ever seen a few of them. The clock dates to about 1890.Charles and his team have since restored the clock to perfect working order, and did a subsequent periodic maintenance last year.Shortly after that, against their advice, I foolishly attempted to adjust the time by turning the hands backwards just a little. This is unfortunately one of those clocks that must only be wound forward and allowed to chime out fully at every quarter hour.Once again my clock refused to work. I took it back. They had it running perfectly again in just a few weeks, and kindly did the readjustment "under warranty" at no charge, even though it was my fault.They do sort of suggest they are one of the best horologists in the world and based on my experience, I have no reason to doubt it.They actually coaxed a former employee out of retirement to fabricate a part for a timepiece for a friend of mine a while ago.I doubt one could find a better place to have a valued timepiece serviced.
