This was my first experience in an Ethiopian restaurant and it was quite a positive one. From the friendly service to the delicious food, it truly was worth going out of my comfort zone. We chose a platter of chicken, and two types of lamb, along with a variety of vegetarian sides (corn, pulse, greens, cabbage, beets, etc). The injera (bread used to pinch the food) was amazing and the food was spicy but not overly so that you don’t taste anymore. A great balance that filled three of us, with leftovers in the end. Succulent!!!


WASS Ethiopian Restaurant in Hamilton is superb. The food is fresh, delicious and spicy. Highly recommended !


My husband and I are adventurous with food and had never tried Ethiopian. We ordered two lunch specials brought on one large tray. The tray was covered with injera, a spongy, crepe-like teff bread that is not easy to make (I read about it afterwards). We had a lamb stew, a chicken stew, three kinds of lentils, cooked greens, a cabbage dish, beets, green salad, and a bit of white crumbly cheese vaguely similar to feta. We scooped it up with bits of injera and had a spiced tissue made with clo, cinnamon and cardamom. It made for a wonderfully vibrant meal and we truly appreciate this enterprising couple who have transplanted themselves and their cuisine in Hamilton. They bravely survived the pandemic and I hope that many more Canadians will try this food culture that represents communal values, ingenuity and brightness.


Perfect Ethiopian food. Amazing service. Will be returning here for years to come. If you’ve never had Ethiopian cuisine, you must try it. The flavours and tastes are amazing. There is something for everyone. And you get to enjoy the company of your friends and family at the same time. Can’t wait for our next visit!


Excellent food, chill server. We ordered two veggie combos and a meat combo for five of us. And I'm about to explode.


This is my partner's favourite place so when we were taking her son out for his birthday dinner and he said he wanted to come here she was very happy. We've been here many times and we always go for that same dishes. The Vegi Combo Plate with Tibs ($50.85) was as always very tasty offering a good variety of different tastes. We needed an extra order of Ingera ($1.00) and my partner has a glass of Shiraz ($6.00). We also had the Coffee Ceremony ($12.00). If you have never been and have an adventurous side Wass is well worth a visit. You rip of pieces of Ingera, you then use the ingera to pick up your food, no utensils here unless you ask for them. As well if it's your first time and you like coffee it is worth having the coffee ceremony where you learn a little bit about the Ethiopian culture and enjoy some very good coffee. I think with Wass you are likely to either love it or hate it, but I think it is worth a try.


Its the way you eat with no utensils and the Ethiopian soft flat bread that you eat with that makes this so special. It was not busy when we were there and its hard to believe as the cost was reasonable and the food fantastic. Will return again for another visit.


I wanted to have Ethiopian food for my birthday meal, and my husband did not disappoint when he made a reservation at Wass restaurant. The food was delicious and well presented. The service was shy but friendly and not rushed, which was nice for a birthday meal.


We enjoyed the vegetarian platter and lamb skillet. Both were delicious and very filling for two. My husband has been again since and I am sure we will be returning. Our young son was not a big fan, so I would not recommend for families with young children who are not used to trying new foods (although non-spicy flavours were friendly for all ages).

The restaurant is definitely old and could use some love as it looks worn down but the sandwiches were delicious. The roast beef had so much flavour and not sloppy at all. The chicken sandwich was perfectly fried and juicy. The gravy is a must! Make sure u order some with the fries. Definitely a must try if you are in the mood for some comfort food. Super friendly staff and large parking

Wow! I must say that this place is great! I had a roast beef sandwich. It was so tasty I had to get another one. The beef and gravy was hot and delicious. The service was fast and the atmosphere is old school but very clean. I will definitely be back!!
