Derek: I found this place by accident when I was in Edmonton/St Albert a few years ago. We stopped in because I needed a break. Glad I did because this is a fantastic little stop.There is great bird watching here, and it's so peaceful. It was the highlight of my trip to Edmonton that day. I'm glad I found this place.I'll definitely go back.

Jordan 02: .The lake itself is spawning ground for Pike, mostly what you can catch fishing it. It's actually not too bad in size considering it's 8km long however it's mostly wetland 5-10ft deep, it's basically two smaller bodies that connect. Public access is all on the east side body of water at the inlet to the Sturgeon River and it's limited to only that small portion for both the recreation park and Provincial park, so this is more of a pond than anything. If you are looking for a traditional lake experience here with beach, power boating and swimming this wont be for you.

Rod D: This is a great lake for pleasure kayaking. We saw lots of birds and muskrats. Even when its windy its an easy paddle. Quite a few weed patches but its easy to navigate around them.Great access from parking lot at the end of Rodeo Drive. One of our favourite spots, take a camera.
TJCB: Big Lake, for me, is my sanctuary. The Red Willow Trail System goes directly to it and it's beaming with wildlife. I've seen beavers, moose, coyotes, herons, all sorts of waterfowl, muskrats and even a Yellow Headed Blackbird as per the picture which I've never seen before. They tend to stick to the warmer climates in the US and Mexico and Southern Alberta in the summer.
