Winnipeg Art Gallery: what do users think?

Anna M: Absolutely love this place, if you're in Winnipeg, don't miss this place.

Rita Toews: The Winnipeg Art Gallery is a must visit in the city. A large permanent collection of art as well as many exhibitions regularly displayed. Make sure to check out the gallery store for interesting items, prints and unique gift ideas!Visited on Weekday Wait time Up to 10 min Reservation recommended Yes …

Rodney: Lovely building architecture. The art exhibits, nicely displayed, covered a few genres but for me the most enjoyable were the stone carved figures column in the entry but most importantly was the Inuit section. The artistry and craftsmanship represented in the creations was just simply beautiful. A real gem. The staff were friendly and helpful especially the young lady in the cafe.

Dariusz Michno: Foot operated hand sanitizers are not very wheelchair friendly.

Natalie Marion: Always a great visit. Loved the delicious food being served out of their coffeeshop.

Mia Balansag: I recently visited the museum gallery with my kids on a free Sunday, and it was truly an amazing experience. The grand entrance of the "Color Therapy" exhibit was both inviting and vibrant, with its seamless blending of white space and a mishmash of captivating colors. It was heartening to see a dedicated area for kids to create their own art, adding a wonderful touch of interactivity. However, my personal highlight was undoubtedly the section featuring Victorian, realism, and classic portraits. These portraits eloquently painted a rich tapestry of history, and I found myself engrossed in reading the backstories that accompanied each piece. The depth and attention to detail in these artworks were truly impressive.Another captivating exhibit was the indigenous art display, which provided a poignant lens into the truth and reconciliation of past hurts. It was an eye-opening experience, and I felt a deep sense of connection to the stories told through the art. Spending time in this section left me feeling enlightened and more aware of the struggles and resilience of indigenous communities. The museum also offered a haven for relaxation and unwinding. I could easily spend an entire afternoon there, away from the constant buzz of technology, feeling refreshed and calm. One of the highlights for my kids was the scavenger hunt for indigenous art pieces, which added an element of excitement and engagement for them.My only wish is that there were more interactive activities like the scavenger hunt. These activities would undoubtedly enhance the overall experience for both children and adults, making the museum visit even more immersive and memorable. All in all, our visit to the museum gallery was an enriching and enjoyable experience. From the captivating color therapy exhibit to the thought-provoking Victorian portraits and the eye-opening indigenous art display, the museum provided a well-rounded and engaging journey through art and history. It's a place that both educates and inspires, making it a must-visit for families seeking a blend of culture, history, and creativity.

Rodney: Great in so many elements. The message and purpose of educating people on human rights issues is very well done. The layout and quality of the exhibits enhances the learning experience with clear visual and auditory presentations. The building architecture is beyond describing as it is so unique and beautiful. The friendly staff were icing on the cake. Well done.

Julian Diaz: Excellent museum and of world importance due to the diversity of races and creeds all with the same rights

Xiaolei Deng: Such a beautiful building that housed some of very thought provoking materials and history that we wishes didn't take place. I enjoyed the layout of the museum and also its invitation to think , instead of a strong agenda. Also want to give credit to including the history that many don't feel proud of. It is essential to be able to see and discuss history so it does not repeat itself. My only minor complain is the layout inside can be a little confusing. Maybe I missed the map or overview, or maybe the museum is designed this way as human right can be a confusing topic often without a clear right and wrong.

M Prins: A hidden gem! So much packed in this little space! If you can, have a museum attendant around to ask questions—adds so much! The museum curator joined us and was a fount of knowledge on every bell and ship model and artifact. And he had personal experience! A short walk from The Forks, free admission, but hours are limited (closed for lunch, and close by 3pm. Museum is at the front of an active naval recruiting centre.

Lyne Brousseau: Just perfect. The exhibitions are beautiful, especially the one on Louis Riel. The museum is located in a very old building with an old chapel behind it which now contains several artifacts from another era. On the second floor is an exhibit on Métis and Indigenous art. You can find a bit of everything there, including painting and sewing. The description of the works is described in French, in English and in the language of the artist. The people at the reception are PERFECT! they speak French, answer all our questions, they are simply passionate about the history of St-Boniface. We had the chance to ask just one question and it was a book that opened up to us. In addition, the view from this site is simply splendid! a must, impossible to miss. In front of the museum is a huge bust in honor of Louis Riel. I simply loved it!

Renaider: I went to the St Boniface museum on a Thursday when the entrance and tours were free. When I got there and asked about the free tour, I was told that there wasn’t going to be one because there wasn’t enough people. Literally only me.It made sense at the time because, of course, I didn’t want to put them to any trouble. So I wandered around with one of the fellows, just pointing out the different rooms and what were in there but no detailed information.I went away underwhelmed and later decided that I would contact the museum and ask why they wouldn’t give a tour even if it was just for one person because one person or 10 people what’s the difference?I received an immediate response, and was told that I should have been given a tour and that,” anytime I would like”, I would get free entry and a tour. Thank you Loik !Well, I’ve had a tour of both the graveyard and the museum and I can tell you it was incredibly informative and very satisfying. The information imparted I had no clue about.Yes, there’s a lot about Louis Riel, because he is buried there, but there’s also a lot about the history of St Boniface and Winnipeg in general.I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone who might go, but a couple nuggets of information that I learned kind of blew me away.First of all, I found out that a cross is only a crucifix if it has Jesus on it. Otherwise, it’s just a cross. And on the cemetery grounds a life sized crucifix just outside of the old cathedral faces the cathedral, when normally, it should be facing out from the graveyard. Apparently, this is to protect the cathedral, which has burned down three or four times now.It was totally fascinating to hear about the original inhabitants of this area and the Europeans effect on them and how the newly formed Manitoba government try to negotiate with the Canadian government to become Manitoba. And lots and lots and lots of details in between. If you are at all into museums, and how the local history formed what is now the modern era, this is a must visit museum and the tour makes all the difference!I highly recommend attending the St Boniface museum.

Tara M: A wonderful treasure! Must see when visiting Winnipeg. Parking is a challenge.

Julianne Duncan: Totally interesting.A slice of history I have not previously known of.Such gracious and knowledgeable staff.I will try to spend more time there.Visited on Weekday Wait time 30–60 min Reservation recommended No …

Kids enjoy Tex their scavenger hunt, crafts and treats, so are moms enjoyed their coffee while kids were entertained. And the place itself… so much history, beauty, details and textures. Jeremy Boutin: loved their trip to the Children’s Museum. We visited on a late-August Wednesday while on a trip from out of province. We spent three hours there in the morning before going for lunch, and the kids begged to go back in the afternoon.Highlights are the train, fluid mechanics, and self-serve art areas. Educational material is presented in a way that makes it fun.The staff are great and put in a lot of effort to create a safe environment. It seemed like someone was cleaning one exhibit or another at all times.

Chir Birry: What a great place for little ones! My kids are 4 and 1.5 and this was a great place for them. A lot of hands-on tactile activities. The climbing structure is meant for older kids since you need to be taller to reach the higher levels, but there was still lots to do without the climbing. My kids loved thr water area and the milk / air tubes the best.FYI - They offer 3hr free parking with admission and you do NOT need to pay for parking at the meter - it's not a system where they validate your ticket or refund what you paid.We were there on a Thursday around 230pm.

Ashley Soriano: it would have been very tight in the train and hard to navigate. Many other areas were decently accessible, some areas not at all, I'd say about 50% was accessible for a wheelchair user.
