The surface finishing industry plays a vital role in the Canadian and global economies. In Canada alone, it is reponsible for $6.5 billion in economic output. It is also one of the most regulated industries in Canada. It is a backbone industry in the Canadian economy.

The Canadian Association for Surface Finishing (CASF) is Canada’s only industry association representing electroplaters, anodizers thin film depositers, powder coaters and other surface finishers. We are stronger together. CASF provides support and a voice for our industry.

While the surface finishing industry touches a wide variety of products and industries within Canada, it is often overlooked as a driving economic force with an annual impact of $3.5 billion.

The Surface Finishing industry includes a wide array of products that are used to electroplate metal, ABS, polypropylene and nylon resins and in the case of powder coating, wood and other substrates. Electroplating, anodizing, coating, galvanizing, and heat treating metal and plastic substrates fall into this segment. Specialty finishes produced by the surface finishing industry become key components of many products used in everyday life around the world. Surface finishers supply the automotive, oil & gas, agricultural, aerospace, defense, building & construction, medical, electronics and many other sectors. As such, it is a key industrial market in Canada and helps Canada maintain its manufacturing competitiveness.

To ensure Hamilton students reach their goals HIEA members have been supporting hands-on, educational programming for elementary-age students since 1978. For more mature students, HIEA's Members also proudly offer Environmental Bursaries at Mohawk College and McMaster University and as of 2022 an Endowed Scholarship for the new Honours Sustainable Chemistry Program at McMaster University.

This one-of-its-kind activity book was created for the Hamilton Children’s Water Festival to explain the different types of wastewater and how industrial wastewater is treated. The book also contains fun activities related to wastewater.
