The Bike Library & Workshop is a community bike shop on campus and is an initiative under Sustain SU. We are fully equipped with the tools and space necessary to repair and maintain bikes. Bike repairs are DIY, however, our volunteers & Bike Library Mechanic can provide guidance and offer some help. Tool and stand use are entirely FREE, but we do take monetary donations!
The Bike Library & Workshop also sells used and new components and parts such as tubes, tires, and other accessories. We are not taking donations of bikes due to the lack of space, but feel free to donate any parts or components that are not of use to you.
The Bike Library was founded in 2005 in the basement of the Students’ Union Building. It originally operated as a place to loan bikes to students and staff (hence the name). In 2013, the Bike Library moved to SAB 1-13, and its name was changed to the Bike Library & Workshop (BLW).

We will also be offering information about the Bike Index Program and theft prevention on campus. Stop by and enter a draw to win prizes including a U-lock, and some sustainable prizes. There is a $160 rental deposit which will be refunded when the bike is returned. Renters will be issued a U-lock and key, and a pair of lights if needed. Note that we DO NOT provide renters with a helmet.

Sarah LaSelva: Ben's bike tour from Jasper to Banff was wonderful! It's a challenging ride, but his itinerary is thoughtfully planned out with rest stops and check ins with snacks exactly where they are needed. He had short hikes planned out for after dinner to make sure we got to see as much as possible. He put so much care into making sure we had the best possible experience. I highly recommend Ben and Mountain Madness!

I have had the privilege to participate on a few bike tours but never one as expertly guided and organized as this one. From the pre-trip communications right up to the airport drop off Ben has carefully thought of every detail to make the trip enjoyable, safe, achievable, fun and rewarding. He is super knowledgeable about the area and more importantly what is needed to cover these distances by bike. And his warmth as a person is absolutely icing on the cake of a great experience.

The 4 day tour of the rockies was great, and Ben provided the right amount of support as we tackled the climbs, the flats and the downhills at our own pace. The accommodations are rustic but clean, and the COVID protocols in place by Ben were very comfortable. Snacks were fantastic, as was dinner. The breakfasts and lunch were a bit small, but sometimes that was limited by what was available. Overall I'd reccommend the tour for any intermediate cyclist who wants a fully supported and adventurous experience. Thanks so much!

He looked after little details like ensuring our bikes were ready to go in the morning, to providing snacks that could work with my allergies. He checked with restaurant staff to ensure meals were allergen free. My spouse rented an e-bike and it took the stress out of the ride for her as she was uncertain about completing the hills. It made a huge difference for her.

Steve Douglas: 5 stars for sure! Ben provides a world class tour from Jasper to Banff via the Rocky Mountains. This tour provides stunning mountain scenery at every turn. Ben's knows this route like the back of his hand, right down to letting you know where you might find crosswinds on your ride. His attention to detail means you don't have to worry about a thing, he has your bikes ready for you in the morning and lays out all the days rest stops, lunch stops, terrain, distances etc. at the pre-ride chat. He also has radios for everyone to stay in touch as cell phones coverage is very limited. Accommodations are great, food even better. Paul Singer: Terry is an awesome guy to learn from! If you are thinking about trying this out he is the guy. He accommodated us by teaching us on Canada Day, and did the whole course while it was raining… Not just a little bit, but fairly hard. He just stood there in the pouring rain, and taught us what we needed to know for 90 minutes.

Alex Bachinsky: I am a struggling woman who doesn't have a lot of money. I went to bike Edmonton and a gentleman by the name of Ken and his co worker Kenny helped me at a discounted rate fix my bike. I am very grateful for the help and understanding of my situation. If anyone ever needs there bikes fixed fast, at a good price and with every detail and explanation out on the table I would recommend these guys.
RzRshRp 709: Today was my third time coming to the shop to do some work, and even though I came in for a DIY appointment, each time at least one of the staff members have helped me out and done things for me showing me how to do them like putting on a rear gearset or how to replace a bottom bracket. Alex, Larry, and Ken have all been a massive help to me, teaching me how to do things, and leaving me to my own devices in the rare chance that I happen to know what I'm doing, but still come over to check if everything is going smoothly and if I need any advice. They have a huge wall of nearly every used part you could ever need, from bottom brackets to friction shifters and everything in between. This is the only place I'll ever recommend to anybody that needs work done on their bike, simply because they'll teach you how to do the work yourself with the proper tools, or you can pay them a little bit more to do it for you, it's only $38 for a half hour service, and they do as much work as physically possible in that half hour. I haven't tried that yet so I don't know how much they can get done in a half hour, but even still a basic service at a retail bike shop I looked at would cost $150 minimum, not including parts, tax, or any hidden fees that may pop up, you could book 3 half hour appointments and a 15 minute one for less than the cost of the basic service at a bike shop.

Chaminda Somathilaka: This is wonderful place to get you bike fixed. They have new and used parts for reasonable pricing.I went their to get my rear wheel repaired. Since I'm new to bike repairing, a volunteer helped with mine. He was super helpful, he explained me each step and each part. He found exact fitting used parts to replace my axel and cones and fixed the hub. I'm hoping to study more about bike repairing so that I can go DIY tune my bike next time.

For example, I picked up a lovely 50-year old 3-speed roadster there for $300, and it's rapidly become my favourite bike that I've ever owned. It's not exactly the sort of bike that easy to find in Edmonton where so many bike dealers favour mountain bikes and road bikes.Also, I appreciate that they're not just taking the careless approach to COVID to appease the feral numpties. It would be nice if it were easier to get an appointment, but I understand their staff are limited and there's a lot of people who rely upon them.

Matthew Boonstra: The volunteer, who is the manager for this location, was very friendly and helpful. She talked me through everything she did with my bike so that I could learn a bit, and stay engaged with what was going on. Even though she worked on my bike for the full half hour and had to close for the night afterwards, she had me go for a small test ride to make sure that everything was fixed. I'll definitely get a membership and go back next time my bike needs work, and I highly recommend Bike Edmonton to anyone who has a bike.

Kevin Carson: We dropped in unannounced while at the Fringe to see if I could get my gears adjusted and my wife get her squeaky brakes looked at, and Sean was able to take us in, on the spot, adjust everything, and did it without cost. A few days later my wife got a flat riding to work, and again, was helped right after work, no appointment, no cost. The customer service is 2nd to none!

I had been to two other bike shops in town but neither carried a kickstand that could support the weight of a fat tire ebike, and the latter sent me here.Not only were they able to immediately provide a replacement without ordering, they also did so without charging me for the installation. The team was exceedingly friendly and able to answer all my questions about maintenance, etc.They'll definitely be my first choice next time I need help with my bike.P.S. If you're considering getting an ebike in the first place, I absolutely recommend it. I've put on 400km in under 2 months already.

I never thought any basket would fit my bicycle coz of the big wheel. Before going to Revolution I did go to a bicycle store on the south side and they couldn’t find a bicycle basket that fit my bicycle. I m glad that Ben of Revolution got me a basket that fit my bicycle. His co worker told me Ben is very experienced as he has been doing this job for 25 yrs. Then he showed me the folding bicycle and mountain bicycle. He informed me to go on the website to join events that I might be interested. All the staff there are very friendly and smiling , one of them even opened the door when I left with my bicycle. They make me feel welcome and at home there. I will be their forever customer

Also, two years from purchase date, you can get as many tune ups as you need! Overall stock of bikes was pretty good, lots of other gear. This was a great experience and I highly recommend Pedalhead Bicycle Works!!

Sabina Qureshi: I needed to have my seat raised; I hadn't been able to do it at home because I couldn't loosen the bolts holding the seat post.A fellow came out from the back and said they would give it a try. After 5-10 minutes he returned and said they hadn't been able to loosen those bolts either and recommended I make an appointment and ask them to work on it for an hour at the shop rate of $100/hour. But he didn't charge me anything for the time spent today. He also advised me that my back brake cable needed to be replaced since it would soon fray.Excellent service!
Norm Trottier: We bought new bikes and a year later one of them started making a thumping sound. Took it in a couple times, then the service manager Jeff took over. They replaced everything they could think of. We talked to Tracy who is one of their bike techs….it was a puzzle for them. They rode it and the noise wouldn’t go away. They finally found a rare issue with the rear wheel that was the cause. They were helpful and provided great customer service while they tried to fix. So happy they got the issue resolved. Thats why we buy local and from reputable shops…. They care!
Dave Schlauch: I recently purchased a Blue Jays Jersey for a birthday present for my wife, that I sent out for custom numbering as her favourite player is not one of the star names. The size was incorrect & the staff was super friendly & accommodating, as they allowed me to exchange the jersey for the correct size & have sent it out for the same custom numbering. I was so pleased with their customer service that I ended up purchasing a Blue Jays wind breaker & gift card before as I leaving the store.
Michael Bains: Was in EDM on a family trip from ON. Son is a huge oilers fan bought some hockey/oiler gear from United. Got back home and the Oiler water bottle peeled. Called the store not expecting much but they were amazing. Apologized for the the situation and shipped a new bottle plus some more oiler gear. Brent R: I picked up a mountain bike last week and couldn’t be happier with the customer service. The associate I dealt with was very knowledgeable and answered my questions. Great selection, great staff and great prices. I’ve been to other retailers and they either don’t listen or try to up sell you another bike. Highly recommend you check out United if you are in the market for a new bike.

Annie Lam: During my two recent visits to the store, I was very impressed with the courteous staff and their prompt service. The bathing suit section is well stocked and the prices are reasonable. During COVID, I was in frequent contact with a representative due to racing suit being not available, and she went out of her way to help my daughter. I’m a happy customer.

Laura: Fantastic Canadian born store for outdoor gear and clothing, with a wide selection of items for hiking, biking, climbing, kayaking, camping, running, and other outdoor activities. They have their own line of clothing and gear that is high-quality and moderately priced. They have an environmental ethos, with strong corporate sustainability commitments. This chain used to be a co-op that was member-run, though sadly it's now American-owned.

David Gartner: Lots of outdoor oriented gear. Prices for some items seem a little high, however I believe they try to source their merchandise from suppliers that treat workers fairly. This may account for some of the price differential.
A Davis: Spacious store with everything under the sun. And if you are willing to dedicate an hour or two of time, you can locate some amazing deals. I've found an inexplicably discounted rack of Craft jackets, decent winter running leggings, perfect cycling shoes, merino wool socks and hats, t-shirts and most recently, excellent slip-ons. My MEC winter running jacket from 15+ years ago is still perfectly intact minus the zipper.
