In the fall of 2000 a group of ex-United Nations Peacekeepers in and around Winnipeg decided to form a Chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping here in Winnipeg. Initiated by Ivan Poitras and assisted by Norm Van Tassel, Dennis Henderson and Gord Criggar, who formed the first Executive, and supported by 22 others the basis for the Chapter was laid out. After many meetings, on the 6th of December 2000, the Manitoba Chapter was born.

As the membership grew, it was found that new members were coming in to Winnipeg from all parts of the Province, especially the western parts. It was then decided that the Manitoba Chapter should split to form a second Chapter in Brandon. At this time it was also decided that the name Manitoba Chapter would have to be changed to differentiate between the two Chapters. Each Chapter then decided on its own unique name at their respective General Meetings

The one based in Winnipeg approached LGen (ret) RR Crabbe to use his name for the Chapter. He graciously accepted and the Manitoba Chapter, based in Winnipeg, became known as the "LGen RR Crabbe Chapter". The newly formed Chapter based in Brandon became known as the "Holopina Chapter".

The LGen RR Crabbe Chapter holds meetings on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Unit 283, 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. 4worldlovers: We want everyone we encounter to be able to find what they are looking for. We help those looking for a home, a shelter, and those with mental health and addiction issues. Everyone deserves a roof on their head and someone who will listen. In this day and age prices of everything are sky-high and families and individuals are struggling. Sometimes all you need is a place to call home, even if it’s just for one night.

We plan and take action. All of us help raise funds for charities. Plan and organize charity events, recruit volunteers and help execute. We work with charities and program directly. The effort is to try to help those who are trying to find their way. With finding homes, shelters, the right program, or an ear to listen, ourselves and the volunteers strive to do whatever possible.

We look for new opportunities to help other organizations grow that also benefit those in need.

Listings for shelters, housing and health programs, we direct individuals to the proper channels.

There is not a lot of direct information out there on homelessness and mental health issues. They can easily be misunderstood. We aim to help educate those willing to learn.
