The rescue was founded in 2017 by a husband & wife team, Cindy & Jeff Hildebrand, both from Winnipeg.

Cindy & Jeff have spent the past decade working with and advocating for a variety of animals.

Our board of directors is made up of 5 incredible individuals: Cindy, Jeff, Rebecca, Nikki & Gerald.

The rescue’s focus is on the often misunderstood “pocket pets” and exotic animals (such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, hedgehogs, etc). The team at Popcorns & Binkies Rescue Haven strives to create a better understanding of how to properly care for and provide for these animals through education, as well as an extensive adoption process that includes multiple reference checks and interviews. The team has rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed hundreds of animals over their years in operation, and continues to better the lives of the animals in their care.

On January 30, 2023, we launched our Stairway To Haven campaign, which coincides with The Year of the Rabbit.

After 5.5 years in operation, our need to grow into a physical location has become crucial to continuing the work that we are doing. Beyond supplementing the space provided by our foster homes, a physical shelter would provide us the emergency intake space needed to handle the increasing trend of dumped and abandoned small animals requiring immediate placement.

This campaign has a financial goal of $150,000, which will allow us to establish a strong financial footing towards opening the door on a physical shelter location. While we understand that this is a huge undertaking for our small team of dedicated volunteers, we are confident that with the help of our community, we can make it a reality for the animals that need our help.

Meet Cocoa & Mocha, a pair of bonded male guinea pigs, approx. 2.5-3 years old!

Hey there, we’re the cute crew you see around! You’ll recognize us by our crazy hairdoos that we rock on a daily basis!

You can catch us lounging in our hay box or throwing our favorite ball around! As the name implies, “Guinea PIGS”, we enjoy all the fruits and veggies we can get our paws on, so keep them coming!

Despite the rumor going around that we are loud during the night, we actually enjoy lazing around.... like all the time - and we are quite quiet during the night.

Occasionally as brothers always do, we can get on each other’s nerves, and we enjoy some time apart from time to time, that doesn’t mean we love each other any less, you can catch us doing everything together. This also means that we need an extra large space - double the size of a normal pair of guinea pigs - so please keep that in mind!!

We enjoy sharing some lettuce, or cuddling in our houses. So why not give us a chance and let us join your family!

Cocoa & Mocha require an experienced guinea pig owner, and a home with no children under 12 years old.

Welcome to Craig Street Cats. CSC is a feral cat management program and kitten rescue working with Winnipeg's 100,000+ community cats. We are the only organization in Winnipeg that is actively working to humanely reduce the free roaming cat population in this city, and advocating for change to make that happen. CSC is also the largest cat specific animal welfare organization in Winnipeg.

Update, April 28, 2023: Due to the current shortage of veterinary staff, Craig Street Cats is in the process of final closure of our adoption centre. We have just over 70 cats that need loving forever homes. With close to 2 years left on our lease, there is no rush. In the meantime, we will continue to offer boarding services, and run our fundraising events as usual.

Once the adoption centre closes, we will continue to support the cat colonies already under management, run our educational programs, provide post adoption support, and maintain our database. These services will be available until 2035.

Because we no longer have a primary care veterinarian, our veterinary costs are MUCH higher than they were when we had a regular vet. In addition, the cost of everything else has gone through the roof (cat food has almost doubled in price over the past 2 years). The cats need your support now, more than ever.
