The Arboretum covers about 26 hectares (64.2 acres) of rolling land between Prince of Wales Drive and the Rideau Canal. It displays a wide range of well-established trees and shrubs, various soil types and moisture levels.


The Arboretum is free of charge and open every day to the public from sunrise to sunset.


The Gardens cover an area of approximately 3.2 hectares (8 acres) and have been a favorite site for wedding parties and photographers since they opened in the 1880's.


The Ornamental Gardens are composed of a number of different areas:

125 different lilac varieties, including a number of "Preston lilacs" developed by Ottawa researcher, Isabella Preston.

65 different plant species in the two hedge collections. The "old" hedge collection contains plantings dating to 1891, while the "new" hedge collection dates from 1965.

The Explorer series of roses developed at the CEF and renowned for its winter hardiness.

The Greenhouse was built in 1928 and houses the Central Experimental Farm's tropical plant exhibition.

4worldlovers: The Log Farm is a little hidden treasure of local heritage. A country oasis located right in the middle of today’s busy city. The Log Farm was settled in 1854 by the Bradley family. Our family takes pride in continuing in the Bradley’s footsteps, as we currently have three generations working the farm today. The farm offers our guests a glimpse into the past of what a family farm would have been like in the late 1800’s as well as how we currently farm today.

Guests will enjoy some family fun down on the farm throughout the seasons. We always have lots of friendly animals to see, feed and touch at the farm. Along with play areas for the kids including hay structures and sensory tables. You can visit the farm from March through December. The farm changes with the seasons, offering different experiences throughout the year.

The Proulx family has owned and operated our family farm in Cumberland (Ottawa) since 1920, when our grandfather, Napoleon, purchased the land and established a farm that produced dairy, raspberries and maple syrup.
