Dr. Marie Paquette is the founder of the Belleisle Psychology Clinic in Ottawa. She earned her doctorate degree in psychology, specializing in neuropsychology (PhD), at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières. She is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Order of Psychologists of Quebec. She completed her doctoral internship and then worked as a clinical neuropsychologist in the intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, and physical disability programs at the CIUSSS of Sherbrooke. Dr. Paquette works with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of issues.


In addition to her clinical practice, Marie Paquette has been involved in several research projects in social psychology focused on the inclusion of people with disabilities and the prevention of issues experienced by parents of children with autism spectrum disorders.

Having recently settled in Ottawa, she is now happy to offer resources in neuropsychology to the region.

A clinical neuropsychologist is a professional within the field of psychology with specific expertise in the science of brain-behaviour relationships. Clinical neuropsychologists apply this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of patients with known or suspected central nervous system dysfunction.

The equivalent of two full-time years of experience and specialized training in the study and practice of clinical neuropsychology and related neurosciences.

The specialty of clinical neuropsychology is recognized by the Canadian Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. Clinical neuropsychologists are seen as independent practitioners (healthcare providers) of clinical neuropsychology and psychology. A clinical neuropsychologist uses psychological, neurological, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological principles, techniques, and tests to evaluate patients’ neurocognitive, behavioral, and emotional strengths and weaknesses and their relationship to normal and abnormal central nervous system functioning. Clinical neuropsychologists use this information and data provided by other medical/healthcare providers to identify and diagnose neuropsychological disorders, and plan and implement intervention strategies.

​A neuropsychological evaluation is ideal when we want to identify not only what is impaired, but also why there are impairments. By considering both neurological and emotional/behavioural factors, neuropsychologists can diagnose conditions such as:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Attention and/or hyperactivity difficulties

Specific Learning Disabilities - Persistent challenges learning new skills and/or information

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - Social communication difficulties, restricted and/or repetitive behaviours and interests

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) - Typically caused by a concussion, but other causes exist may include memory problems, mood swings, and other symptoms

In addition to assessing and diagnosing the above difficulties, neuropsychologists can also indicate whether an individual’s intellectual functioning indicates high potential or giftedness.

4worldlovers: The Ottawa Anxiety and Trauma Clinic is a private practice, fee for service clinic that specializes in the provision of mental health services related to psychological trauma. We are a multi-disciplinary group of licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and psychotherapists who all have a special interest in helping people who have been through traumatic experiences. All of our clinicians offer services in English; some of our staff are bilingual and offer services in French as well.

Please note that in the fall of 2022, OATC clinicians started a gradual return to offering in-person services. This process is ongoing, and most OATC clinicians are now offering a combination of in-person and remote sessions (via video or phone) to their clients.

Psychiatrists can prescribe medication, provide medication consultation, and provide talk therapy. Services provided by the team psychiatrists are covered by OHIP; a referral from a physician is required. Due to high demand there is often a long wait list to see our psychiatrists. Please contact our office administrator to inquire about wait times to see a psychiatrist and if they are accepting new patients at this time.

Psychologists can provide assessment and diagnoses, as well as treatment for trauma-related disorders and for other psychological difficulties. Psychologists do not prescribe medication, but they can communicate about your needs with other health professionals who do deal with medication. Psychologists in private practice settings are not covered by OHIP and therefore bill for their services at standard rates for psychologists in Ontario. Many extended health plans offer coverage for psychological services, as do certain organizations such as the RCMP and Veterans' Affairs.

Clinical social workers also provide specialized services in the treatment of trauma and other mental health issues. Clinical social workers in private practice settings are not covered by OHIP, and therefore bill for their services at standard rates for social workers in Ontario. Similar to psychologists, many extended health benefits plans offer coverage for the services provided by clinical social workers.

Psychotherapists at our clinic have advanced training, typically a Masters' degree, in the provision of mental health services, and can provide talk therapy to help with trauma and other issues. Similar to psychologists and social workers, their fees are not covered by OHIP and they therefore bill for their services at standard rates for Ontario.
