4worldlovers: Ottawa Dog Rescue was founded in August 2013 by a group of dedicated dog-lovers and experienced rescuers. We are an all-breed, foster-based rescue in the nation’s capital who have dedicated ourselves to helping abandoned, abused and surrendered dogs find well suited forever homes.

Our mission is to be a transparent, accountable and professionally run non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs at risk in the Ottawa area. We have a great team of committed volunteers, foster homes and local veterinarians to help us achieve our goals. All of our rescue dogs are provided with temporary foster home care until we find them well-matched and carefully screened forever homes.

Along with rescue, we aim to educate by bringing awareness to responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neutering. Rescue is about saving lives, and we will do what it takes to do rescue right, because too many lives are lost due to a lack of public awareness and resources. An appointment is required to bring in a found animal or to claim a lost pet. If you have found an animal, please contact us at 613-725-3166, ext. 221 to schedule an appointment to bring in the animal.

If you have found an animal, legally you must take reasonable steps to find the owner. Click here for five steps to follow when you find a lost or stray cat. Also, make sure to complete our online Found Animal Report.


To report a stray dog at large or stray dog that you have found, please contact the City of Ottawa at 311.


If you have lost an animal, please fill in our handy Lost Animal Report. The OHS receives thousands of lost animals every year. Submitting a complete lost report will help us to quickly identify many animals.


Submitting a lost report is not a substitute for calling the shelter to enquire about your missing pet.

If you have lost your pet, you can view lost photos online of most of the stray cats and dogs that have recently been admitted to our shelter. Pictures are posted within 24 hours of admission, and the site is updated every hour.

Please note: not all stray animal postings will be accompanied with a photo. If the description of an animal matches your lost pet, please call our Lost and Found department at 613-725-3166 ext. 223.

We will do our best to help with your search, but as the owner, you are ultimately responsible to look for and identify your pet.
