4worldlovers: Happy spring! Or maybe pseudo-spring is a better term – it’s still pretty wintry out there! Though it may be a while before we see the first flowers poke their heads out of the ground, everything’s coming up books here at the store these days! The spring books are just pouring in and there are so many we want to read that it’s hard to know where to start! Thankfully, there are no real rules when it comes to reading, so we can all just jump right in with both feet! Just make sure you keep your warm socks and cozy blankets close at hand because it looks like winter may not be quite finished with us yet!

Before we get into the “what’s new” section of our newsletter, we have a few in-store book signings on the horizon that we wanted to tell you about. On Saturday, April 15, Susan Taylor Meehan will be in the store from 1:00pm to 3:00pm to sign copies of her new novel, Loyalty. Full of spies, secrets, and just a hint of romance, this Cold War era tale takes readers from wartime Ottawa to the unstable shores of Europe as a young woman tries to find her place in a changing world. Be sure to pop the store between 12:00pm to 2:30pm on Saturday, April 22 to see local author Elie Nasrallah. He will be here signing copies of his newest book, Gates and Walls, a fascinating volume of “stories of migration in modern times.” Taking a quick peek into May, local mystery author (and store favourite) Brenda Chapman will be here on Saturday, May 6 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. She will be signing copies of When Last Seen, the highly anticipated follow-up to Blind Date, the first book in her new Hunter and Tate Mystery series. Set right here in Ottawa, this new series sees a true crime podcaster and a determined detective join forces to solve the mysteries and murders that crop up in our Nation’s Capital. 4worldlovers: Advance notice about a very special event coming our way in November. On Sunday, November 12th, we will welcome Tika the Iggy: Lessons in Life, Love, and Fashion . Tika is that loveable Italian Grehound that you may have encountered on Social Media. Get ready to feel fabulous!! More details to follow.

Join us on Sunday, August 20th as we welcome Natacha Belair to the store as she introduces her new novel, A Stellar Purpose, a YA science fiction that won Gold at the 2023 Nautilus Book Awards. Natacha will be in the store from 1 to 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, August 22nd Linh Nguyen will be at the store from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to introduce her new middle-grade novel, No Place Like Home

Perfect Books is pleased to welcome Habib Cooper Diallo on September 6th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as she introduces her very provocative work #BlackinSchool. Wrought from her high school journals, this work sheds light on what challenges exist for black students in Canadian High Schools.

Kyle Vingoe-Cram will be at the store from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th to introduce Kettle Harbour, a graphic novel set in Nova Scotia. Childhood memories may evoke nostalgia but memory can be a tricky thing!

Roy MacGregor, one of Canada’s most celebrated journalists will visit us on Tuesday, September 11th to introduce Paper Trails, a retrospective of many decades in Canadian journalism. This book provides fascinating insights into the people and events that have shaped our nation ‘s politics, sport and culture over the past 50 or more years. There’ll be some great storytelling to be sure! Join us from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Seating is limited — come early!

On September 12th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. we welcome Amanda West Lewis to the store to introduce her new Young Adult novel, Focus. Click. Wind. This novel takes young readers back to the days of turmoil and political upheaval of the late 1960’s and will be a terrific resource to acquaint young readers with those turbulent times.

Also on September 12th Perfect Books will be at Library and Archives Canada as the bookseller for the Ottawa Writers Festival as it launches its Fall Festival. Charlotte Gray‘s latest work, Passionate Mothers, Powerful Sons: The Lives of Jennie Jerome Churchill and Sara Delano Roosevelt will be the focus of the evening. Festivities get underway at 7:00 p.m.

On September 13th from 7 to 8:30 p.m., we welcome Rebecca Sacks to the store with her new novel, The Lover, an intense, page-turning love story between a twenty-seven year old Canadian woman and a nineteen-year old Israeli soldier, set in contemporary Israel.

Take a deep dive (and an inexpensive one at that) into our wonderful collection of classic literature in the form of the iconic Penguin Blacks. Revisit Dickens, Woolf, Dostoevsky, Conrad, Austen, Bronte… the list goes on and on
