The Monart Art School of Ottawa is celebrating its 19th Anniversary!


The last 2 and a half years have been tough. As restrictions and normalcy are beginning to return, we would like to thank everyone over the past 19 years for being a part of the Monart Family. Monart opened its classroom doors back in 2003 and since then has taught countless artists the techniques and traditions of drawing and painting. Here’s to many more to come! Learn the art of portrait painting in oil using our step by step method. Beginner and advanced students will benefit from this workshop. Students will be working directly from life using artist oil paint or any medium that the student selects. ARA instructor Miriam Rosenthal will teach you the basics to capture the likeness. We also ask any of our students or any child that wants to make a “thank you” drawing to all the people out there giving their time and exposing their lives so the rest of us we can keep going; the doctors, nurses, bus drivers, the workers at the grocery store, drivers delivering food etc. We will try to send those drawings to all those places so they know we are all thankful for what they are doing.

Our studio is a licensed Monart Drawing School – a place where anyone can learn to draw and discover new ways to express his or her creative fire! We offer classes for both children and adults – whether you are 5 or 95, come and join us!Just as learning musical notes is fundamental to playing an instrument or practicing ballet positions is basic to a dancer, learning to draw is a foundation for all of the visual arts and a true life-skill that can foster an appreciation for the natural world, stimulate a creative spirit, and even enrich a career. 4worldlovers: The Ottawa School of Art offers four levels of instruction to help students select courses relative to their skill and experience. Each level includes courses covering a variety of media. A minimum number of registrations are required to avoid cancellation of a course. Please register 5 days before the start date.

Multimedia classes are offered for children aged 4 to 10 years. Throughout the three terms, students produce a wide variety of work in all disciplines: drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture, including clay. These classes give students the opportunity to use materials and processes that are not available in the home or school setting. Individual lessons focus on different elements of art: colour, line, form, perspective, composition, etc.

Most courses are organized around a theme and include a tour of the collection at the National Gallery of Canada. Classes are two hours long and tuition fees include all materials.

The Ottawa School of Art also offers classes for older children between 10 and 12 years old as well as teens. These classes encourage students to focus their attention and develop patience using a narrower range of techniques while having fun.
