Shumka Ukrainian Foods is an Edmonton family owned business started in 1975 by Mike, Sophie and family, originally located in the food court at Londonderry Mall.
In the early years of business, all of the food production was done on site with home grown vegetables, the best ingredients and the integrity to provide consistency and quality to our food.
Heather has been a major part of the business and in 1983, Heather and husband Blaine opened up another food venture and since have taken over the family business.

Louanne Dal Bello: I used to live in Edmonton and my friends and I were talking about our favourite restaurants. When I brought up Shumka, everyone agreed! I lived on Jasper Ave and had to take 3 buses to get there, but it was well worth it. Now I live in the US and it would be several more buses I'd have to take, but I'll tell ya what: it would be worth it. The food is delicious, abundant and fresh. Someone is using their Baba's recipes and it shows.

Роман Букатюк: The owner is very friendly and helpful. The interior is cozy, there are beautiful paintings of Eritrea or Ethiopia in the hall. The food is authentic. It is specific and not for everyone. From the outside the building looks bad. It was raining that day and the walkway was all puddle, so my legs were all wet. We ordered kitfo to go, but were a little bit afraid to eat this dish with raw meat, so fried the meat. Was not bad. Amanda Meadows: Went for a lunch, asked for suggestions and got perfect advice for a taster menu. Staff were knowledgeable about the choices and were very attentive and friendly. Ended it off with an amazing espresso. Would highly recommend.

Everything happy happy bride. Could ask for this is the place. Thank you for an amazing experience. I am a bride, a very happy bride, that I will remember this beautiful experience forever.

Unky Dimmy: This food is so good. Get the makloub. It’s a Tunisian wrap. Everything on the menu is great. Three blocks off 118 ave and 7 blocks off 97. Out of the way but worth the trip.

Nur Amirah Rizal Yong: This place serves delicious and freshly made food. Tried their pizza and baguette farcie. So delicious. We prefer the chicken fillings over the minced meat. It is one of a kind baguette. Must try! Not the same as French baguette and way better than kebab or donair. Highly recommended!

Catherine: I just read that the ownership has changed or something? The restaurant definitely does not have the same vibe it once did. I was worried, but the taste of the butter chicken is exactly the same and I enjoyed it very much. The portions seemed a bit smaller and I was disappointed that there was no tamarind chutney for the samosas. But otherwise, it was what I was craving! My favorite Indian place in Edmonton.

Raffat Ramji: Went to an event at the Indian Fusion The Curry House. Amazing and very inviting ambience. Very friendly and good service. The food was delicious. The Honey glazed cauliflower is a must try, malai chicken and beef kababs were very moist and delicious and also the lamb biryani was also very good. And to end it with delicious kheer and house chai. Will be going back for more.
