The team at Xtherapy was warm, welcoming and approachable— which was appreciated since I hadn’t socialized or done group exercised in just over a year. It was due to their pivot to outdoor rides that I joined and I am so happy that I did.Now that the province has opened up again it can feel a bit overwhelming to decide how to get back into old routines — but if this is the Wild West, then Xtherapy is the cowgirl on the white horse. The space is clean, and the entire team is working with client feed back to create a safe space that folks can feel comfortable in while attending fun classes that make you work!

Daniel talked to me about the benefits of kickboxing, and what I was looking for from this type of training. He explained the warm-up and cool down/stretching exercises and why they are beneficial and how they fit in. He took the time to reshow me, and breakdown the movements when I asked, and forgot. He never once made me feel like a failure or like I embarrassed myself. He is friendly, very knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. The energy and excitement he gives makes for an amazing class!!!My class was based out of F.R.E.E Fitness, such a great new gym, easy to find, lots of parking, great hours and staff. Lots of equipment, and so many different services offered. Very very clean and well lit, great set up and friendly members. I’ve worked out in different gyms, but when I walked into F.R.E.E Fitness, it felt like “home”, a great atmosphere and great gym!!!!!

Not acceptable at all.Update: I talked to the person at the gym the next time i saw them and she explained that the door gets stuck when it is extremely cold outside, so the fob should have let us in, but it was in the -30's that week. She accommodated me for the trouble, and was very apologetic. Appreciated her efforts in this a lot.

Jennifer Nealon: Amazing atmosphere and the instructors are very helpful to everyone’s individual needs. Even though the workouts are small groups, I feel supported and guided in a non-judgmental space. Booking the workouts is easy on the app and you are able to follow up with the trainers directly whenever you need. The other athletes are very friendly and hold you accountable, as in you want to keep coming back to see your new friends! I highly recommend checking out this gym!

They do periodization so I can get better in a program and monitor my progress, before it changes to a new one after several weeks or so. Claudio Anders: When I joined BB I was not a fan of group fitness however what Anthony and the team over at BB have built is so much more than a group fitness class. The classes are limited to a handful of individuals at a time and the workouts are tailor made for maximum performance. I gained 5lbs of muscle in one month and gained a substantial amount of strength. More than that the small class sizes promote a sense of community and I found myself looking forward to every session not only for the workout but for the people and coaches that create the soul of this facility. Everyone is at a different level and everyone encourages each other. Between sets we get to idle chat and I got to know some fantastic people. Their workouts helped me achieve my goal of becoming a Correctional Peace officer and at almost 40 years old I was able to perform at a level that suggested I am younger than I am. Unfortunately I’ve had to put aside my time at BB for personal reasons but I find myself thinking about them often and I am looking forward to the day that I can join them again. If you’re looking for a place to learn how to lift weights or challenge yourself as a veteran lifter BB has something for you.

I wanted to get back to exercising regularly, but I wasn't at all keen to start going to a giant gym.The Barbell Base turned out to be the perfect alternative. The staff are all fantastic and attentive during workouts, correcting form and keeping everyone on track. The workouts are varied and really well balanced, with something different to do every day.Best of all, the atmosphere and sense of community at the gym is incredible. Everyone is super welcoming and friendly and are generally there just to get healthier. It makes for a really low pressure environment and with the small class sizes it feels like going to work out with a bunch of friends rather than a bunch of faceless people who are only in it for the gainz.

Runaway Workout Club: what do users think?

Matthew Fowler: Great spot and the workout is fun+addicting. A typical class is 15min treadmill intervals / 15 min HIIT floor workout, and repeat for a total 60 minute class. Each workout the intervals and exercises are different so it's a fresh challenge every time. Also very much a go-at-your-own-pace experience and a friendly+welcoming environment.For amenities, they've got everything covered. Small lockers with locks you can borrow for free and showers with towels + soap provided.Nothing bad to say about this place! Highly recommend for anyone at any fitness level!

Lori Lefebvre: is knowledgeable, extremely approachable, and truly cares about her clients. She made sure to ask me questions and assess where my healing was at when I started, and continues to check in every single class - providing modifications or specific exercises where needed. She has created a positive, non-judgmental environment where you are encouraged to respect where your health/body is at, and motivated to show up and give it your all. As a new Mom, it's so nice to go to a class with my baby and feel instantly connected and welcomed by everyone!

Kimber Klynstra: Rachelle's postnatal classes are awesome. Her classes are geared for all fitness levels and I get to bring my little one... bonus. Rachelle is very knowledgeable and keeps each class unique and challenging. Rachelle's love for what she does shines through and creates a great environment. I look forward to continuing my wellness journey with her and would hands down recommended trying one of her classes.

Erin Schuring: Rachelle is so knowledgeable. I went to her for prenatal fitness classes and continued postnatally, and felt so comfortable that I was being safe but also getting a great workout!Her class sizes are small which means you get a more personalized workout as well as the chance to get to know some other moms!Her attitude and positive energy are contagious and she makes working out enjoyable. Plus I’ve never felt stronger! The environment is so welcoming and non-judgemental and It’s so fantastic that the kiddos can play while you workout!I would highly recommend Rachelle and Momentum Health and Wellness!

She is very knowledgeable and has so much information to share, not just on fitness but how to live a healthy lifestyle and how small changes to your diet can make a huge difference. I've done her one on one personal training sessions and the fit camp and both are so worth it. I can't wait to try her strollersize and mama sessions once the baby comes!

Monica Marchand: I've been going to Rachelle's classes for years. Always a great workout. She has classes suited for everyone, including prenatal and postnatal. You can bring your children to the classes which saves so much on childcare and shows your kids how important it is to stay fit. I always recommend her classes to everyone!

Sherilyn Trompetter: Rachelle creates a welcoming environment for moms of all fitness levels and is an exceptional trainer. She is very well educated in physiology and in-tune with the needs and anxieties of new moms-to-be and moms. Her pre-natal classes were a highlight of my pregnancy and I felt better prepared for labour and post-labour. As a current client of her post-natal classes, she makes it easy for me to come with my little one and is always warm and genuine. I can't say enough great things!

Chad Desaulniers: This is a great place to workout and train. The owner Shaun is incredibly knowledgeable in training and nutrition, and keep the facilities in excellent condition. The equipment is top of the line, and new exercise equipment is always showing up. The personal trainers that train out of this facility are also excellent, in particular I have had a great experience with Fabio. Fabio made a workout regiment with my goals in mind, and I am seen results very quickly. I highly recommend Fabio as a personal trainer.

Wade Szymanski: Cassidy my personal trainer is outstanding. She has done wonders for me both physically and mentally as well. Pushing me to get out of my comfort zone, challenging me each day and the results are showing big time. Been working with her for about 6 months and so happy with how far I have come. Nice to look back so see the results, as it’s consistently she keeps saying wins the goals and it sure has. I have never been this fit in my life and seeing how much energy and strength have is awesome. Would never have gotten here if it was not for Cassidy. Shout out as well to the other trainers Kerri, Luke, Mackenzie and Christine. As they are all awesome as well and put so much care into there clients.

Marcela (Marcela): I worked with both Christine and Mackenzie and they are fabulous trainers. They push me in the way that I needed without causing any injuries. I highly recommend them

Jerusha Chua: We were guests of the JW Marriott and used the gym and pool. The gym is very nice! It's huge, taking up one whole floor of the building, with different rooms for classes like spin, boxing, yoga, and more. All the equipment is newer and clean. It wasn't very busy on the Saturday night. The pool, however, did have lots of people going in and out. The hot tub was quite warm - around 40 celsius. However, the steam room in the ladies was tepid and had no steam at all. Overall, we would definitely come back to the hotel just for the chance to use this gym again.

Dustin Petersen: Best gym in the city hands down. Extremely knowledgeable & kind staff and every piece of equipment you can imagine.Simon, the owner, is dedicated to his business. He has put his heart and soul into making this a successful gym, not only for himself but more important for the fine people who choose to workout here.

A Miller: I could not imagine a more welcoming and inclusive community! The coaches are excellent, very supportive and highly skilled. I have been able to get into the best shape of my life and it is because of the positive atmosphere and outstanding coaching. I expect to continue to come to this gym for a long time and would welcome any newcomer to come and give it a shot!

But, from my first class I found a group of people who were completely supportive of each other and welcoming to newcomers. There is no doubt this environment has been cultivated carefully by head coach and owner Clayton - questions are encouraged, all workouts are explained thoroughly and he is very mindful of making sure you are doing things properly to avoid injuries. The different class times offer lots of options to fit around any schedule.

Al Chapman: Amazing athletic experience. Suited to participants at all levels. Coach Clayton provides a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that promotes success.

Marc Blythe: Solid WOD’s at this box with a focus on correct technique to avoid injury. Really enjoyed working out in Clayton’s classes during a recent trip to Edmonton, highly recommend this gym. Very welcoming to newcomers.

Ghost2Give: Signed up with Sydney about a year ago and she made everything exceedingly easy and accessible. Since then, any questions or concerns that I had were met with hospitable ease and I felt very included and comfortable all the time. Though I would love to continue to use the gym itself, I have recently moved into a place with a very extensive facility. If the opportunity ever arises, I will be sure to recommend this place!

Jennifer Funnell: This is my favourite neighbourhood gym! I’ve been a member there for 3 years. I’ve since moved out of the Strathcona neighborhood but I won’t workout anywhere else. The gym is comfortable, and well run. Great equipment and friendly staff who are always willing to help. I personally trained with Zaq Thompson for over a year. I’m a mother of two. He’s been amazing in helping me to get my fitness goals back on track and my post baby body back into shape!***A personal note to all the moms out there who might be looking for a trainer, go seek Zaq out! He gets us!

Chant Bowers: Hands down the best gym for me , it’s quiet and everyone is helpful . Zaq was my trainer for about two years and he made me work ! He was motivating , caring , made me laugh and feel comfortable . Sometimes life gets the best of you some days and I’d find myself crying in the middle of the gym and he would take the time to bring me to the staff room and hug me till I was okay , you really couldn’t find a more caring and knowledgeable individual than him and I highly recommend him as a trainer there ! Only reason I left is I moved to Victoria .

Josh Leblanc: I started going to this location about 1-2 months ago and it’s grown on me for sure! There’s definitely not the range of machines you’d find at a larger gym but you can still have a very effective workout here.It gets a little bit busy but never overwhelming and for the most part you can work out freely without much of the hassle you’d find at other gyms during peak hours.One thing I’m noticing is 90% of the people are there to get their workout in and about 10% spend way too much time on their phones and it really messes with other peoples workouts who are waiting. To do a set and then be glued to your phone for a 10 full minutes before the next set is odd to me and I find myself getting most of my workout in while they’re still on the same exercise.. all the while no one else can use that area. For me I came here to workout and other then changing a song I’ll wait to use my phone til I’m home. Maybe some signage as a reminder would help this.Anyway other then that small pet peeve which is common to most gyms these days I give it a full 5 stars!

Koustubh Sudarshan: I trained with Sebastien for multiple sessions and he managed to meet most of my personal goals in a short span of time. Seb was an extremely empathetic, knowledgeable and an amicable trainer to work with. Highly recommend his services if you are looking to change your body, gain strength or rehabilitate.

Kevin Beckstead: Perfectly adequate fitness facility. Has three squat racks, two deadlift platforms, pull up bars are part of the squat rack. They keep the place clean and the equipment is in good condition.
