Dr. H. Tu grew up in Edmonton. He attended the University of Alberta where he obtained his bachelor of science degree with specialization in pharmacology. He then completed his Doctor of Optometry with Honors from the University of Waterloo in 2006. Dr. Tu has been a member of the Edmonton Society of Optometrist, the Alberta Association of Optometrist, and the Alberta College of Optometrist since 2006.
